Joy Division were an English post-punk band formed in Salford, Greater Manchester, in 1976. The group consisted of vocalist Ian Curtis, guitarist and keyboardist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris.
The band's sound is characterised by its dark, atmospheric compositions, driven by Curtis's haunting vocals and introspective lyrics.
